Welcome to the forums! Here we'll answer questions we commonly received prior to the launch of the site and will be updating over time. If you want to consider this a general Q&A thread feel free to add a reply.
What are the SuperCombo Forums?
This is a community forum for the Fighting Game Community. You are encouraged to sign up and interact with fellow users to discuss fighting games, promote your local scene, ask a question and get an answer, and more.
How do I get started?
You can sign up for an account using your email! or sign in with your Discord or Twitter account. Either way, read our beginner's guide to forums and get familiar with our Terms of Use.
What happened to Shoryuken.com?
The purchase of the EVO brand by a company named RTS included the rights to the Shoryuken branding and domain. Following this, the Wiki site was operated independently until a legal decision was established to separate the contents of the other sites associated with Shoryuken (including the Forums and Wiki) and the SuperCombo name was established to give the contents a common home.
Beyond the above nobody at SuperCombo staff has any knowledge or involvement in the operation of the Shoryuken.com site or branding.
Why is there a new forum site?
The difficult decision to open a new forum site instead of re-opening the old site was made because of the following factors:
- Many users gave us negative feedback about Discourse's end-user experience as a forum software.
- The sheer volume of data housed by the Discourse forum carries a performance cost that exceeds our budget.
After several weeks of technical analysis to try to re-open the Discourse forums on a lower budget to ensure the longevity of the site, it was determined that the price for a stable user experience would not be feasible in the long term. When running the site in read-only mode, it is possible to easily navigate the millions of threads and thousands of files served by the site because no background tasks or personalized queries are being executed. Discourse requires significant computing power to do basic tasks with a large data set such as the Shoryuken Forums. The new forum software is Flarum and uses a technology stack that is well suited to our existing server capacity while offering improvements to user experience.
As a result of the above, a duplicate of the Shoryuken Forums has been uploaded to the Shoryuken Forum Archive which is found at archive.supercombo.gg. No updates or changes to the contents found there will be made.
Why even make a new forum site?
In 2021, the vast majority of the Fighting Game Community is built on ever-crumbling infrastructure such as Twitter or Discord where information is easily lost and communities quickly vanish. This forum site is a new place for the community to gather and keep the information or connect for the next decade and beyond.
Who is in charge now?
SuperCombo is founded by ALIANZ and Shiburizu. Jointly we operate multiple Fighting Game Community sites such as Mizuumi Wiki and all SuperCombo services under the GBL organization. It's nice to meet you!
For a list of our active moderators please use our User Directory in the sidebar.
Do I need to make a new account?
If you already had an account with the Shoryuken Wiki, it will continue working with SuperCombo Wiki. If you had an account with the Shoryuken Forums, you will need to create a new account with SuperCombo Forums. The new Forum software allows you to log in with Discord or Twitter.
Have the rules changed?
You are encouraged to read the SuperCombo Terms of Use for our Code of Conduct and general policy about what is or isn't allowed on any of our services.
Am I still banned?
Disciplinary action from the Shoryuken Forums is not yet applicable to the SuperCombo Forums. We may inform users of decisions to uphold bans on a case-by-case basis.
If you are unsure about whether or not you will be allowed to use the site, you are encouraged to send an email to appeals@supercombo.gg inquiring about making an account.
How can I support the site?
Operating SuperCombo carries a cost that grows over time.
