shiburizu I want to put it out there that I'm incredibly grateful for the support we got on those shows.
Definitely agree; 100%. Hope the original didn't come off as unappreciative of the extra press, just that it was worth talking about
shiburizu you simply have to accept that forums offer something different than the Twitter timeline or Discord server
This is essentially why I kind of felt it necessary to put "comeback" in quotes since I don't forums ever really "left". For the FGC, maybe, though from that show there are apparently other forums still active that I'm just not aware of, but by and large they just serve a different purpose now. Maybe this is part of the public perception that I just didn't consider- when people envision using forums "how they used to" it meant asking them to dedicate tons of active time on them like they do with their socials nowadays 🤔 I guess first of all, if I instead asked someone to spend hundreds of hours on Twitter instead, I should probably just be charged with some kind of mental/emotional trauma suit right then and there lol. "All things in moderation," but that's kind of the point of saying they just serve different purposes now. Maybe the public perception is just stuck that way; using forums in lieu of socials/messengers when it's closer to that of looking for and responding with opinion piece articles.
Fickle-BLM What I hope to get from SC ( . . . ) [is] a hub for coordination/community building ( . . . ) if SC, or any other FGC forum, is supported and used enough by the community, it can quietly become a bedrock on which those alternatives rest.
shiburizu you had to go to Shoryuken.com to read about EVO.
This is probably the brightest future I'm hoping for. It's already happened with other platforms to not-so-hot fanfare: "Did you see X and Y Tweet? You really need to read this [double digit number] long thread." or, "Are you in X or Y Discord? Hang on, I'll get you an invite, just set XYZ roles and check the pinned in this role-locked channel." With SC (or any forums) someone can make/sticky any meaningful article or lengthy post and socials can just link back to that. Some folks, myself included, have of course advocated for certain things to be put on the wiki as opposed to hiding in discords or lost to the catacombs of the bird app, but let's be real, there is some work involved in learning how to put things on the wiki(s). Maybe not in terms of "How put text on website," but definitely in terms of "There's already been a lot of work done here, how can I properly format and articulate my information to match what else is here"...at the very least. It's much much easier to just throw it in a Tweet or pin it in a Discord since there's little "legacy to uphold" or organization to think about. If those same users could instead just post the same clips and things in a thread, at the very least, it would make things indefinitely easier for the "archivists" of those respective groups to look through everything in one place to later add to wiki's and such.
I can also definitely see tournament threads/sub-sections being infinitely useful in the future; especially if they're able to be frozen and archived xyz number of months after the tournament is over. being able to have a short hot-list of sticked threads with info on food in the area, master lists of side-events (like what @/IdolismJ is making for frosty already) would be much easier for the everyman to link back to and read through then looking for a specific Twitter post however long ago or joining a Discord and looking through who knows how far back the info isn't pinned. Adding onto that, I think it would be a pretty massive addition if there were a way to incorporate some kind of Calendar tab not too dissimilar to the wikis; making the community info + News + Important dates all in one place.
But yeah, I think the idea of being that "bedrock" is just the best-case scenario. I just very much like the idea of, if I need to be linked to something /important/ regarding FGC things, I would rather it be a thoroughly written post with all the important links + info in one OP rather than a series of Tweets or a Discord channel, since those seem to be the communities two most-likely-alternatives atm. Same goes for general "character tech" organization. "Add it to the wiki" is always going to be the go-to saying, but I would much rather have a [tripple digit long] singular thread then wonder if I'm in the /right/ character Discord.
