Scanman I think there's some evidence that you'll react much faster to sound than to visual info as well.
I read somewhere that the human brain reacts to sound on average in like 10ms versus light which is at the fastest 20ms reaction time... so that makes sense! I'm sure there wouldn't be any difficulty in testing it. Something simple like "hit the space bar when you see the picture change or hear music playing."
I've always wondered if some audio design becomes too stimulating or more difficult to focus. For example, the helipad stage in Tekken 7 I always find hard to look for audio queues due to the music and the layout triggering different sounds. Compared to the more open stages such as Infinite Azure, it feels like the audio explodes in your ears.
I'm not too sure how Unreal Engine 4 works exactly with audio, but I think it uses some sort of 3D audio design that will act differently across stages. Regardless, I think you are right with audio being easier to react to compared to visuals.
